Hi! Having a great journey. Wish you were here.
No, I am not on a vacation but, like you, I am on a journey; mine
has been an amazing, soul stirring-deep-down-in-the-gut-reaching adventure.
In honor of those of us who have embarked on a path involving
paralysis and pain, October is Disability Awareness Month. For we who
are taking control of our lives, let's make it “Ability Awareness” Month.
What if we focused on our abilities, rather than disabilities? What would that look like? What
might be the results? It is good to recognize our limitations – but it is better to
recognize that despite “limitations,” we are unlimited in what we can do and be.
I was totally paralyzed by a double brain stem stroke. I
was totally trapped in my body. But wait, was I totally paralyzed? Soon after my
stroke, I became aware that I could blink. There. I could do one thing. Could I do anything
else? Yes, I could think. Since I could blink and think – that meant I could communicate – and
the world was mine! If I had focused on what I could not do, the list was endless – and I might
never have realized the potential within me. That was the beginning of my new life as a
speaker and author.
With our focus on the fact that we can do something – and will do
what we can – instead of focusing on what is impossible, just think of the possibilities that
are open to us.

of raising $3,900. With your help, we can make it!
