Having a great journey! Wish you were here. Of course, this time you have been on this journey with me – and with Terri Schiavo and her parents, friends, family - in fact the entire nation. How do you feel about it? Did it make you reach deep down in inside you for answers?

Was it soul stirring-deep-down-in-the-gut-reaching? Sometimes people suggest that being paralyzed must have been a really tough challenge for me – and it was. But in this fight for Terri many of you have also felt paralyzed. Being paralyzed was a really tough challenge for me, but in this fight for the rights of disabled patients many have felt paralyzed; unsure of what to do or even what to think; unable to do what needed to be done about something we felt strongly about – or even knowing what to do or think because we didn’t feel we had the facts. That is a paralyzing experience and in some ways can be a tougher challenge than physical paralysis.

And Terri died – with hardly a chance to live; Terri was a beautiful young woman living her dream of marriage and family. Bob and Mary told me what a wonderful daughter she was. She had many friends and would have had many more in her life time who she would have influenced with her sweetness and zest for life; but she was struck down.

Kate heads to the Washington, D.C.

Kate testifying

April 19, I addressed a congressional oversight committee and shared my story of catastrophic illness in hopes of bringing an understanding to the needs of the incapacitated adults who have not yet entered the dying process. You can view the testimony given on the Web site.

Washington D.C.: I was fortunate to see the entire city blooming in beautiful blossom

Books and more books

Kate at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books

Saturday was a fun-filled day at the 10th Anniversary of the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books held on the campus of UCLA. It’s a great two-day celebration of books, authors, panel discussions, poetry readings, music and food. There are hundreds of exhibitor booths to browse through. This was my first year to be doing a book signing a couple of times throughout the day. My kids love coming to this event each year catching a glimpse of celebrity authors.

May is National Stroke Awareness Month

Kate and Cindy reunite (You can read about Cindy’s trip in the Nov. 10 issue of the newsletter.) This time Kate will be spending time with Cindy in Pennsylvania for some stroke awareness activities. May 7, Kate speaks to the Women of Grace, 2005 Spring Mentoring Clinic, Media, Pa.

Stay tuned for other May activities to be announced including radio and TV appearances.

Kate turns 43 on May 10! How did these years add up so fast! So, to all my strong Taurus women friends around the country, enjoy celebrating another wonderful year.

Save the date

Race to Strike out Stroke logo

If you live in the Los Angeles area, save June 26 on your calendars. This is when the Stroke Association of Southern California will hold its 16th annual 5K/10K Run/Walk and Health Fair- “Race to Strike out Stroke” – in Griffith Park. It’s one of my favorite health fairs and includes the free stroke screening. For more information on registering visit their Web site www.strokesocal.org or call (310) 575-1699. June marks a very special month for me, on the 29th it will be the 10th anniversary of my stroke. I’m ever so grateful to have regained my life back and blessed to be touching others.

Are you looking for a dynamic, inspirational speaker?

Call me. Tell me about your conference. What is the theme? What do you want your people to take home with them? Would you like me to inspire your corporation to a higher level of productivity and profit by overcoming the paralysis that keeps it where it is? Believe me, I will prove that anyone can move to the next level of productivity and profit by focusing on what they want (not on what they don’t) and what they can do (not on what they can't).

I may be the perfect presenter for your next conference. Certainly your company will never be the same again. Let's talk about it! Call me: 800-641-KATE

Fondly, Kate
